Galaxy S5 Full Review

Galaxy S5 looks pretty similar to its predecessor, the Galaxy S4.  Galaxy S5 has upgraded specs which are almost identical to any high-end smartphone available in the market.

  • Design- It keeps a very similar design to the S4, exceptions are the size, which was to be enlarged to be able to fit in the 5.1-inch display and the metal bezels are noticeably bigger. The phone’s back is made out of plastic (giving it IP67 rated waterproof and dustproof capability). It is much easier to hold and provides a good grip to the hand. But one thing that some users may mind is that the back has some dots-engraved, whatever, seems irritating at times.
    It gets an 8.5/10.

  • Performance- Raw amount of power on the Galaxy S5 is large, very large. It runs on a Snapdragon 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 combined with 2 Gigabytes of RAM and an Adreno 330 Graphics Processor.
The processor is equally great as on the number. The phone’s Touchwiz UI runs pretty smoothly, all thanks to the processing unit. Also to mention, high-end games like N.O.V.A 3, Grand Theft Auto etc. run fluently and there wasn’t any lag noticed during the gameplay even on the highest settings.
But still it gets a 9.5/10, because some users complained the stock Gallery app was unresponsive or lagging.

  • Camera Quality- The 16MP rear snapper is pretty awesome. It takes sharp and crisp images maintaining the natural colors. Features like 4K video recording, fast auto-focus and slow motion recording is like a cherry on the cake.
But the camera feature that outstands the all-other is the selective focus, seems to be taken from the HTC M8, but works very well.
Front camera stands at 2MP which allows video recording upto 1080p which is impressive. It is good for video calls or taking selfies.
    Camera gets a 10/10.

  • Operating System-S5 runs on Samsung’s themed version of Android 4.4.2 Kitkat which is called TouchWiz. It is surely not the best looking custom interface, but not as bad because not only it changes the look of the phone, but also brings some feature along it. Negative aspect is that some of this software is primarily bloatware like the Samsung Apps Store, E-Mail.
    So, it gets an 8/10.

  • Display- It includes a 5.1-inch SUPER AMOLED 1080p display with a pixel density of 432ppi. Display is very good, but not on par, as the colors are oversaturated which has now become Samsung’s tradition. Otherwise, it has good viewing angles and performs well under bright-sun.
It is told as the best smartphone display ever, records broken thou, and gets a 9/10.

  • Connectivity- S5 supports fast internet browsing as it is 4G enabled. Other modes of connection are 3G, 2G, NFC, Bluetooth and S-Beam. It comes with a download booster to help increase download speed by a bit.

It gets a 10/10.

  • Other Features- Heart Rate sensor is a useful add-on for some of the people. Fingerprint sensor, works good but not so well that it can be compared to like that of iPhone 5S, because the user has to placea finger in somewhere near the middle and swipe it down with a decent speed.

These add-ons improve functionality, but for some users only. So, S5 gets an 8/10.

Final Verdict- Consider buying a Google Play Edition version which can be released in the future.
